The above conversation from the blockbuster film Animal House (1978) explains the craze amongst youth regarding the toga parties, which were a hype since the late 18th century. It was the time when some party animals organized a party in this theme (wearing a toga costume). Yes, it is the 21st century, yet the fun and excitement is still the same.

The modern-day idea is to try to match the effete and extravagant parties that used to be held in ancient Rome, in addition to the variety of food, liquor, and games to entertain and cheer up the guests.

The ancient Roman theme will suit the best for your party decoration. Use cushions on the floor other than the chairs and sofas for the sitting arrangement. You can also decorate the chairs with several drapes and silk fabrics that match the color theme of your room.

Decorate the room walls with the help of some fake vines or twisted crape papers of green color. Opt for several candle stands and decorative candles having a bit of ancient look, rather than the regular electric light fixtures.

However, take adequate fire safety measures. To give the royal Roman look to the homemade party decorations, drape the furniture in red silk fabric. Place a golden eagle on the door. Cut a cardboard in the shape of an eagle, and color it with golden color!

Always serve rich and lavish food to the guests, i.e., any type of food served in a plushy manner. Place the grapes on a golden-colored platter, place oysters on ice in a silver-colored bowl. Order a cake in the shape of a baby pig. The main idea is to give an exotic look to any party food that you intend to serve. Any of the popular food items served in a grand style will definitely be a huge hit.

Make exotic party invitations that will heighten the excitement amongst your guest, days before the actual party. Make the invitations look like the ancient scrolls. The location of the party must obviously be your or a friend's apartment with plenty of space in it. This party is not very different from other regular parties that you have attended or planned. You can also arrange for a DJ to make your party more groovy.
