Tea parties are an old practice with many cultures, but it gained prominence during Victorian times, afer which it became a rage. In present day England, both men and women like to have tea in the afternoon, hence the concept of a tea party with snacks and other goodies came from the British.
These parties are a wonderful way of spending some quality time relaxing with friends and family. Tea can be very filling if it is accompanied with light snacks like sandwiches, biscuits or scones or some other sweets. A tea party is usually scheduled from mid to late afternoon and sometimes can be a substitute for lunch.

Tea Party Recipe Ideas

Tea parties can be a great idea, when you have to host just a simple party with no dinner or lunch. You can have it to celebrate a shower, a birthday, or even graduation. So once your done setting a date, planning a menu and brewing your tea, it's time for some goodies and sandwiches for extras on the linen set table.

Tea Sandwich Recipes

You can have a wide choice of bread for your sandwiches. Opt from wheat, white, pumpernickel, rye and sourdough or even multigrain. You can even mix and match one slice of each, just to add a unique taste to the sandwiches.
Egg Sandwiches
Ingredients
  • ¾ cup cream cheese or soft butter
  • 20 slices, bread of your choice
  • 5 hard-boiled eggs
  • 2 teaspoons mustard
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper
Directions
On one side of each bread, spread some butter or cream cheese. Add all the other ingredients to a food processor and whirl till a paste is formed. Now spread this mixture on the bread and add some mayonnaise to all the 10 slices of bread.
Place the other slice of bread on top of it and cut off the crisp edges. Cut these sandwiches to make 30 finger sandwiches.
Sea Food Sandwiches
Ingredients
: The same as above except;
  • 2 cups finely chopped shrimp, crab or lobster
  • ½ cup chopped chives
  • Salt and pepper
Directions
Mix the butter and chives and spread on one side of all the slices of bread. Add the remaining ingredients in a bowl and mix them thoroughly, then spread on to the slices of bread. Top them with the other slices and cut off the crusts and the centers to make 30 finger sandwiches.

Crumpets

They are thick soft cakes cooked on a griddle and have a porous texture.
Ingredients
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ¼ cup warm water
  • ½ cup milk
  • Butter
  • Salt
Directions
Add the yeast to sugar and water and let it stand for 5 minutes. After it gets foamy, stir it in milk and egg with butter. To this add the flour and salt and blend this entire mixture properly till it is mixed well. Cover it with a damp cloth and stand it for 45 minutes till it rises.
To a frying pan with flan rings, brush some butter and flour and heat over a low flame. Add some batter to each of these rings and cook for 5 minutes until the tops are dry with small holes. Remove the rings and take the crumpets out. Repeat the same with the remaining batter and serve with whipped cream.

Cornflake Delight

It is thick cake like dish which is sweet and soft. It can be cut into pieces and served with cranberry toppings.
Ingredients
  • 2 egg whites, beaten
  • ½ cup coconut
  • ½ cup sugar
  • Vanilla
  • 2 cups cornflakes
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg
Directions
Mix all these ingredients well in a mixing bowl till a soft batter is made. Spread it on a baking sheet in the sizes of small cookies and bake them for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Take them out and serve them either with apple jam or cream.
