Confused about what kind of food to carry for a potluck party? Read on for some easy ideas for the same.
For people who are busy shuttling between office and home, potluck parties are a blessing! This is because every guest brings in food to be shared among the others, and the host doesn't have to bear all the load.
We all have a need to socialize and meet up with friends and family once in a while to catch up on each others lives and to connect with one another. And what better way to do that than by organizing a small get together or a party once in a while.
Potluck party food is slightly different from your regular party food. The recipes need not be too fancy. They should be easy to carry and transport. Also, any dish that requires a last minute touch up or preparation should be avoided as all dishes should be prepared well in advance.
If you have a potluck party coming up and are looking for some good ideas, then here is a list of dishes which serve as excellent food items at such gatherings.

Sandwiches

If you are looking for cheap food items, which look and taste good, yet do not pinch your pocket much, then we suggest that you prepare mini sandwiches. Prepare lip-smacking fillings and fill the slices with it. Sandwiches are easy to prepare as well as carry. Here are two delicious fillings recipes.

Sandwich Filling Recipe # 1

Make a cheese and onion sandwich. Firstly apply butter. Cut pieces of cheddar cheese and place them on bread. Place a few onion rings. Sprinkle sauce, salt, pepper and put the second bread slice on top. Use a toothpick to hold the sandwich.

Sandwich Filling Recipe # 2

For non vegetarian sandwiches, an egg and chicken filling are ideal. Chop boiled egg and barbecued chicken into small pieces and mix them with mayonnaise, a pinch of salt and pepper. Put this mixture in between the bread slices.

Fried Rice

If you plan to carry a main course dish with you, then you can consider making fried rice. To prepare this, put a tablespoon of oil in a large pan. When it gets heated, add chopped chicken pieces, chopped onions, and minced garlic to it.
Scramble two eggs and pour them in the oil when the onions and chicken become light brown. As soon as you see the eggs solidifying, add boiled rice to the mixture. Mix everything well and then add green chillies, salt, pepper, and other seasonings. Serve in a bowl.

Salads

Salads are healthy and if prepared creatively, can be scrumptious too. A fruit salad is perhaps one of the easiest dishes. Chop fruits such as pineapple, oranges, watermelon, etc., into bite size chunks, add a few grapes and strawberries and serve on a platter.
Another easy idea is to prepare a pasta and potato salad. For this cook butterfly pasta and boil potatoes. Chop the potato into small cubes. In a big bowl, mix both the pasta and cubes of potatoes.
Now, add cheese, chunks of boiled egg, zucchini, chopped celery, and cherry tomatoes to it. Put mayonnaise on top and toss the salad around with a spoon. Add salt and pepper to taste. This will be greatly loved by children.
The ideas that are mentioned here require some kind of preparation from your side. However, if you are looking for something ready-made in which no effort is required, then we suggest you go in for frozen spring rolls or frozen chicken wings. All you have to do is preheat them in an oven prior to the potluck party, and they are ready to be served.
