Sourabh Gupta
Little girls love tea parties. There can be no other better way to celebrate a birthday than a tea party. Here are some fun ideas.
A tea party can be held for various reasons, not necessarily just for a birthday. The reasons may be to teach your child etiquette and manners, or to discuss an important subject. Little girls love wearing beautiful dresses, and getting all the attention. What they also love is acting all grown up.
They are delighted at the sight of cakes, fancy cookies, sandwiches, games, etc.

Planning

If you want to be at peace on the day of the birthday, plan it 6 - 8 weeks in advance. It'll give you enough time to purchase, mail the party invitations, and to make travel plans, if needed. If you have less time, don't panic. Just a little careful planning, and everything will be set.
Of course, if you want to increase the number of guests, it is advisable to plan everything in advance.

Invitations

Send the invitations as early as possible. This will give the guests ample time to organize their trip, if they live far away and make arrangements to attend the tea party. Also, tea parties are supposed to be small events.
You may consider not to exceed the guest list above 10. A good way to send invitations is to send an inexpensive tea mug, or a real tea bag with a label invitation attached. The invitations should be creative, short, and simple.

Decorations

Hosting the tea party outdoors is a good idea. If you're hosting an indoor event, you will have to make special arrangements like, decorating the place with flowers. The area where the party is to be held should be filled with balloons, streamers, confetti, etc.
All the decorations should be done keeping your little girl's preferences in mind. If she loves purple, add a purple touch and a feminine look in your decorations. Use lots of candles and colorful tablecloths. A few things that you could use for the decorations and overall ambiance are:
  • Paper doilies
  • Pink and white streamers
  • Silver foil balloons
  • Fresh flower bucket
  • Dolls and stuffed animals
  • Playing the girl's favorite music
Another great idea is to take the children to a 'dress room', where they can find many dresses, hats, shoes, tea gloves, etc., that they can wear in the party. A little makeup and the girls will be all dolled up. To collect these dresses and make-up items, start weeks before the party.

Activities and Games

Little girls expect a lot of fun and frolic. Without that, they won't be able to keep themselves entertained for long. Therefore, it is necessary to plan a few interesting games. It's better to have a variety of games and activities planned. Here is a list of a few interesting games.
  • Hat making competition (make the best hat out of paper and straw)
  • Musical chairs
  • Making stylish bookmarks
  • Scratch art
  • Paper dolls

Snacks

The menu should be according to children's tastes. Ice-creams, juices, flavored tea, sandwiches, etc., are a few items that children like. Some more ideas are:
  • Chocolate-covered strawberries
  • Cupcakes
  • Finger chips
  • Pizzas
  • Candies
At the end of the party, do not forget to thank each child with a wide smile. You may give gifts and dolls as a return favor to the girls. Things like stickers, homemade lip gloss, nail polishes, etc., will be cherished by them. Remember that it is your little daughter's day. Make it big, and keep her happy.
